| Charitable and Community Trusts are often
asked for ideas about other sources of funds. This is a basic
guide designed to help groups and individuals in the community
use readily available resources to find information about
funds for their purpose. |

Where do I find
funding information?
Funding information is available from a number of sources.
The Internet provides good access to information on general
fundraising techniques and some funding organisations have
their own websites. Funding application forms for several
trusts are also available at Citizens’ Advice Bureaux,
Council Offices and Libraries. Some people are very experienced
at raising funds and dealing with funding organisations, but
there is no one person who knows everything. This is why you
need to be patient and carefully document where information
is available. Funders too have a responsibility to ensure
that their information is up to date, reliable and easily
accessible. The best advice is to talk with the funding organisation
to which you are applying if you possibly can. Not all organisations
have front line people, but make sure that you contact those
who do. |
| |
 |
TIP number 1
Keep a file with a copy of an application form from each
of the funders to which you are eligible to apply. Then
you’ve always got one on hand. |
|

| Using the
Internet and Computer Based Information
Learning how to use the Internet effectively can save you
loads of time. Some funders have their own websites and these
are good sources of specific information. Websites for some
of the major trusts and sources of funding are listed on page
four.
General information is available on two Internet based services
called FundView and BreakOut. Each service provides quite
specific information about different types of funding. FundView
is for organisations and BreakOut contains information for
funding for individuals.
As these services are only available through the Internet
at a price, our public libraries and Citizens Advice Bureaux
provide a computer based service free of charge. Check the
list on page four for the one nearest you. All venues will
provide you with access to the services free of charge.
The following provides information on how to use FundView
and BreakOut. |
| |
| Fundview
Funding for organisations
FundView is the most comprehensive and up to date source
of funding information available anywhere. Every community
group who needs funding assistance should know how to use
it. The service does not hold every funding organisation as
it is up to the funders to supply their information, but the
people in Wellington who compile the information go to considerable
lengths to include the majority of funders.
FundView organises information by funding categories, geographic
area, type of project and a description of the activities
that require funding. |
