Hetty Van Hale

Appointed Trustee
(2018 - 2024)

Hetty was appointed to the board as a trustee in December 2018. Hetty has a background in corporate communications and marketing, and also brings with her 25 years governance experience on not-for-profit boards covering a broad industry range, including experience on audit and risk committees. She also has a strong history of volunteering for community organisations and events.

Hetty is a current board member of High Performance Sport New Zealand, a trustee of Northland Events Centre (2021) Trust, a board member of Diabetes New Zealand, and a member of the Sport New Zealand finance, audit and risk committee. Her previous governance roles include chair of Badminton New Zealand, deputy chair Snow Sports NZ, trustee of Winter Games New Zealand, trustee of Three Lakes Cultural Trust, and chair of the Southern Lakes Arts Festival Trust (which delivers the Festival of Colour Arts Festival). She has also been a past board member of Wānaka Wastebusters, Mt Aspiring College Foundation, Lake Wānaka Tourism, Project Crimson, and the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre of NZ.

She has a BA in Linguistics from Victoria University, a post-graduate Diploma of Information Science from Riverina Institute, NSW, Australia, and Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. In 2023 she completed the Advanced Director’s Course delivered by the Institute of Directors.

She and her husband, John Hare, are keen skiers and mountain bikers, and in their spare time enjoy getting out into nature.
