Alexandra Community House Trust

The Central Lakes Trust grant of $1 million towards the Alexandra Community House project was the largest of the 26 grants totalling $2,732,757 which were approved by the Trust during the first quarter of 2010. It is anticipated that 40 community organisations from throughout Central Otago will regularly use the Community House facility in Alexandra. Community Houses in other regions through New Zealand have proved very successful. They provide a centralised operational base for community organisations as well as enabling resources to be shared and increase the opportunity for these groups to network effectively. Bernie Lepper, Chairperson, Alexandra Community House Trust, was enthusiastic when she was informed of the $1M grant. "We are absolutely delighted with this outcome as the grant is a huge boost towards the construction costs of the building," she said.

Southern Lakes Arts Festival Trust

Southern Lakes Arts Festival Trust was recently granted $70,000 towards costs associated with the Crystal Palace which hosts a broad spectrum of day and evening performances during the festival. The facility will be named the Central Lakes Trust Crystal Palace for the 2011 Festival. Central Lakes Trust has been a major stakeholder in the Festival since 2005 and this grant recognises the community benefit that the Festival of Colour provides.
