Trustees are elected by residents and property owners living within the Trust’s district. Elections are held every three years and anyone on the local electoral roll is eligible to stand for election as a Trustee. The present Trustees were elected in November 2010 and will serve a term of 3 years. Sir Eion Edgar and Graeme Bell were re-elected for a third term. The next election will be held in November 2013.

All Trustees of the Central Lakes Trust are dedicated people with a keen focus on achieving positive community outcomes.

The Trustees collectively have indepth experience in a wide variety of community activities. These include the arts, social services, sport, education, heritage activities, the elderly and disabled.

Sir Eion Edgar (Chairman)

Sir Eion lives in Queenstown and has a strong background in investment, ducation, the arts, sport and philanthropy. He is currently Patron of the Wakatipu Trails Trust and ShelterBox NZ and Immediate Past President of the New Zealand Olympic Committee. He is also a Trustee of the Arts Foundation of New Zealand, the Callis Charitable Trust and the Skeggs Foundation. Eion retired as Chancellor of the University of Otago in December 2003 and has spent his working life in the investment area and is Chairman of Forsyth Barr Group Ltd. Eion was elected to the Central Lakes Trust in 2004.

 

Graeme Bell (Deputy Chairman)

Graeme was elected to the Trust in 2004, having served previously during the Trust’s first term. He is currently a Central Otago District Councillor and lives in Alexandra. His past and present involvement in community groups includes being a member of the Community Trust of Otago, Presbyterian Support Board, Justice of the Peace and the Central Electric Power Board.

 

Greg Wilkinson

Greg has lived in Cromwell since 1995 and is a self-employed insurance and investment adviser. He is active in his community as a member of the Cromwell Lions Club, has served as a trustee on the Cromwell Youth Worker Trust for 5 years and co-ordinates a business networking group. He is also a director of two private companies. Greg’s personal philosophy is ‘fit for living, fit for life’ which he believes applies to the community as well as the individual. He leads a running group and participates in off-road running events. Greg is married to Vivienne and enjoys being involved in his children’s sporting and school activities.

 

 

Bernice Lepper

Bernice lives in Earnscleugh and has an extensive background in education and the social service sector. She is Manager of Central Otago REAP, having been involved in the education sector for over 25 years. In her role at REAP she works with a wide range of community groups and is presently Chairperson of the Alexandra Community House Trust. Bernie’s family has been involved in the Central Otago community for 4 generations. Sport has always been part of her life, and she is actively involved in multisport having competed in all 14 Goldrush events to date. She is a member of the Alexandra Rotary Club and holds a special role as a Marriage Celebrant in the local area.

 

 

Malcolm Macpherson

Malcolm is a PhD Geologist with interests in local Government. He was Central Otago District Mayor from 2001 - 2010. In the health sector he has been an elected member of the Southern District Health board since 2001, is a member of the Otago community Hospice Trust and is married to a General Practitioner. In business excellence, he is one of only two New Zealand-resident US-trained Baldrige Examiners with a 20-year track record in New Zealand-based business excellence assessment and consulting. In education, he has been an Otago Polytechnic Council member since 2005, and in his community he has experience with community funding, museum, outdoor recreation and landscape interests in Central Otago. 

 

 

 

Alex Huffadine

Alex lives in Cromwell with his family, and is a Principal Lecturer for Otago Polytechnic primarily involved with the horticulture industries. He is passionate about education, sport and the community. He is especially interested in fostering education opportunities within the Central Otago region. Alex has been involved in the rural and education sector of Central Otago for the past 25 years and currently farms near Cromwwell. He has been involved with many sporting clubs and community groups over the years, and is committed to supporting rural communities.
