Charities Commission
The Charities Commission registers and monitors charities in accordance with the Charities Act 2005. It also provides support and education to the charitable sector on good governance and management. Registration with the Commission is voluntary but charitable organisations need to be aware that registration with the Commission is a prerequisite for tax exempt status. The Central Lakes Trust encourages all eligible organisations to register. This can be done on-line at http://www.charities.govt.nz/
